“I wonder,” he said, “whether the stars are set alight in heaven so that one day each one of us may find his own again…”
Antoine De Saint-Exupéry
Introduction...
The quote above is our creed. We believe that everyone can find their own star. We brighten the monotony of everyday life with our Telescope Stargazing Evenings and actively contribute to the scientific education of Baja’s youth: each academic year, we run an Astronomy Club for students and co-organize the National High School Astronomy Camp. We host Special Physics Classes as well, featuring regular demonstrations of the Sun’s surface using specialized filters and showing the Fraunhofer lines in the solar spectrum. Furthermore, anyone now has the opportunity to attend our planetarium fulldome movie shows, in our renovated new building on Tóth Kálmán Street.
Planetarium Fulldome Movies
We welcome our visitors to the renovated new building in the Visitor Center’s on Tóth Kálmán Street! Our fulldome planetarium movies are guaranteed to enchant everyone. Throughout the school year, we welcome groups from various educational institutions as well, from the youngest (preschoolers) to the oldest (high school and university groups). Our goal is for everyone to get a once-in-a-lifetime experience and travel with us among the stars, time and time again — might even with their families.
Telescope Stargazing Evenings
The staff of the Observatory and the Foundation operating it have always considered popular science and science communication for the public to be a top priority. That is why we regularly host our Telescope Stargazing Evenings. On these nights, primary emphasis is placed on live stargazing through telescopes—whether our guests arrive during the day or at night—while also help visitors explore the theoretical background of astronomy. In case of cloudy weather, we welcome visitors with lectures and planetarium shows.
During our Telescope Stargazing Evenings, we cover topics such as our Solar System—including the Sun itself, the planets, and other small celestial bodies—how stars work, the mysteries of the Milky Way, types and structures of galaxies, and many other topics. We also discuss current astronomical phenomena, events, and the latest discoveries in astronomy, all presented interactively and illustrated through the telescope. Visitors are always welcome to ask our presenters any questions they may have, even if the topic was not explicitly covered during the main program.
